Alcohol Education

The Real Dangers of Teen Drinking and Driving

Teen drinking and driving is a leading cause of many fatal alcohol related motor vehicle crashes. In fact, 40% of fatal alcohol related car accidents involved teens who were drinking and driving. This is a fact that parents have to face as their teens become independent drivers. And it is scary.

Teen Drunk Driving Education

Street Safe US is committed to educating teens about the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol. We offer "fatal vision goggle" driving during our teen driving course that shows teens how alcohol impairs your vision. Not only will teens experience trying to operate a golf cart while wearing these goggles during the driving course, but they will also try to accomplish tasks such as throwing a ball or walking a straight line. Students will learn just how severely even a small amount of alcohol impairs their vision and their mobility.

Also during the Street Safe driving course, teens interact firsthand with police and fire personnel who are often first reposnders in motor vehicle accidents. A district court judge talks to teen drivers and their parents about the legal ramifications of drinking and driving. Among many things, they learn that law enforcement treats teen drivers as adults and there are serious consequences for drinking and driving.

Alcohol Education Program

Street Safe US is currently pursuing a new Alcohol Education Program dedicated to all DWI (DUI) offenders and underage drinkers. Since the Wilmington area of North Carolina is #1 in alcohol related driving arrests and motor vehicle accidents, we see the need to educate these offenders and try to stem this problem.

The Alcohol Education program will address the negative impact these offenders'actions have on our community discussing trauma, treatment, behavior alternatives, victim family survivors, and enforcement.

Street Safe US is collaborating with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) Crossroads program, Coastal Horizons, Survivor scholarship programs, and treatment professionals in the cirriculum and implementation of this program. We encourage you to contact Street Safe US to learn more about the Alcohol Education program, to find out how we can get involved in your community, or to make a tax-deductible donation.
